15th Anniversary of the Yellow River Soup Kitchen, Newsletter Jan 2021

In December 2020 the Yellow River Soup Kitchen celebrated its 15th Birthday, so many people have come together and given so much of themselves and together we have overcome many challenges and achieved so much. We would like to take this opportunity on our 15 year anniversary to thank each and every one of you who have supported us over the years and made it all possible.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, last year was a difficult year for everybody including the homeless of Xi'an, there were no people on the streets to support them, all food outlets were closed including all their sources of drinking water, all their usual methods of survival were no longer available. We realised that during the pandemic they needed our help more than ever and that we needed to find a way to be able to continue to offer them service, but from the initial lockdown in January our building was closed and has remained closed all year. Instead we took to the streets and delivered to them directly, doing our upmost to provide them with all their basic survival needs to support them through this difficult period. During 2020 we served a total of 14,056 meals to all the homeless of Xi’an, 14,047 face masks, operations & treatments to 12 people and in addition helping 8 people to find work. In November we continued to once again supply them all with winter clothing and blankets. Due to so many challenges last year we felt that if we could just continue to provide them with these basic needs then that would be enough to protect them during this challenging time.

Thank you so much to all the volunteers and all those who have supported us over these past 15 years, without you all none of this would have been possible.

Best wishes from all at the Yellow River Soup Kitchen, hoping you all remain safe and well during these troubling times and wishing you all the best for 2021.
